Evidence-Driven. Community-Accountable. Learning-Oriented

At ACHILD Kenya, monitoring and evaluation is not just a donor obligation — it enables us to gauge whether we are actually making a difference. Our MEL framework is designed to be digital-first, community-led, and action-oriented, generating real-time evidence to guide program improvement and demonstrate impact to partners, funders, and communities.

MEL Approach

Digital Data Collection

All program data is collected using Kobo Toolbox, a mobile-based platform that enables offline data entry in remote areas with automatic cloud synchronization. Data is validated, cleaned, and uploaded to our central dashboard, giving program staff real-time visibility into program performance across all operating counties.

Referral Tracking

We track every referral made within our health programs; from Community Health Promoters to health facilities, and from facilities to specialized care. This end-to-end tracking ensures that no woman, child, or adolescent is lost between referral and service access.

Data Quality Assurance

Monthly data validation checks review completeness, consistency, and logical errors. Quarterly spot-check field verification validates 10% of randomly selected records through physical visits. Annual external data quality assessments are conducted independently. Community validation workshops present findings to beneficiaries for verification and correction.

Policy Brief Development

We translate program evidence into accessible policy briefs targeting county and national decision-makers. Topics include sustainable ECDE financing, community-based maternal health approaches, and adolescent school re-entry frameworks. We produce at least one policy brief per year.

Baseline and Endline Evaluations

Every program begins with a rigorous baseline assessment establishing the status quo before our intervention. Midterm evaluations at the program midpoint assess progress and inform course corrections. Endline evaluations at program completion measure the full extent of change achieved and generate lessons for future programming.

Community Accountability

Our MEL systems are accountable not only to funders but to the communities we serve. Bi-annual community barazas present program results transparently and formally document and act on community feedback. Public display boards at community level show program activities, budgets, and results. Complaint and feedback mechanisms including suggestion boxes, dedicated phone lines, email, and designated county focal persons ensure that beneficiary voices are always heard. Community oversight committees of local volunteers monitor program quality and report concerns to ACHILD management.
